the following procedures are used at West Elementary:

The children who walk to school should not arrive at school before 8:20 a.m.

Each morning the temperature and wind chill factor will be checked.

+10 degrees Children will NOT be let into the school until the regular 8:30 a.m. bell(12:20 for p.m. kindergarten).
The children will also go out to recess as normal.

+9 to 0 Children will be let into school beginning at 8:20 a.m. (12:10 p.m. kindergarten).
They may also go out for recess on a limited basis for a fresh air break.

They may go out for recesses, but on a much more limited basis, and only after having been checked for proper attire.

During periods of rainy or snowy weather, the children will be let into the school at 8:20 a.m. (12:10 for p.m. kindergarten) depending upon the precipitation levels.
Students will also be sent outside for recesses based upon the discretion of the duty personnel, and/or school administration.

It is important to dress the children properly for cold and wet weather each day.
Please be sure that they come to school with an adequate coat, scarf, gloves, hat, proper foot wear, etc.
Overly dressed is better than not enough.
For example, if it turns out to be a nice afternoon and boots are not needed, they can always leave them inside when they go out for recess.

Please mark all clothing with your child’s name and room number.
