Excerpt form 1926 Prophet:

"A new era in the development of the Mountain Home High School has been reached and materialized in the new high school building.

For a number of years the people of Mountain Home have looked forward to having a high school building and at last their dream has been realized.  The new building will be an improvement to the city not only for its beauty but also will induce students of the rural districts to attend school here rather than elsewhere.  In this way the town at large will profit.

With the high school and grades in one small building it has been impossible for the students to receive instruction as is available in modern high school buildings. Owing to the lack of room, we have had to omit different subjects required in class "A" schools, and basketball has been curtailed due to the unsafe conditions of the gym.

The prospective high school building will consist of two parts--class rooms and a gymnasium.  The gymnasium is a large part of the building, sixty feet wide, eighty feet long, and twenty feet high, with a balcony on three sides which will accommodate a large number of people.  Under the gym are the boys' and girls' lavatories and locker rooms; also rooms for domestic science and manual training.

The main part of the building consists of two stories. the lower story contains the science room and lab, the commercial department, on class room, one supply room, a teachers' rest room and the principal's office.  On the second floor are four regular class rooms, a library and study hall combined, and the students' lockers.

The building will be built as near fire proof as possible.  Wood will be used only in the floors, doors, and mouldings [molding].  The building material will consist of brick, steel, and concrete.  There will be three exits from it: one from each end of the main building and one from the rear of the gym.  This exit will serve as a means of admitting people to athletic contests and school entertainments so that it will be unnecessary for the people to go through the main part of the building.

The heating plant will probably be in the new building.  The estimated cost of the school house will be from eighty to eighty-five thousand dollars.  The remainder of the one hundred thousand dollar bond will be used to install a modern heating and ventilating system in our present building and to make important repairs on the roof.

The new high school building will stand as a emblem to the endeavors of the townspeople and it is the duty of the students to show their respect and appreciation for their new home by taking care of the things that have been given to them it in."

" In 1945 the ground was plowed and seeded down to grass and a sprinkling system put in.  This is a beautiful addition to the school block."
