School Attendance : IT MATTERS!
  • In order for kids to be successful, they need to be in school and on task every day.
  • Students who come to school each day and work hard do better academically, showing they have the foundation necessary to do well in the future.
  • Good attendance teaches responsibility.
Tips to ensure kids are in school and learning:
  • Make academics a priority.  Learning is "job one."  Let them know you expect them to go to school each day and do their best while there.
  • Help your child get organized.  Provide a space for learning, necessary supplies & tools, a calm quiet atmosphere, and a routine.  Establish a work first/play later policy.
  • Set reasonable bedtimes.  Establish and enforce an evening schedule as well as a morning routine..  Provide an alarm clock for older children.  Encourage them to get up and get ready on their own.
  • Make medical and other appointments during non-school hours.  Schedule vacations during school holidays and summer break.
  • Keep track of student attendance.  Excessive absences may be a sign of other problems.  Work with our school to determine the reasons for poor attendance.
  • Get involved with your child's school.  Attend conferences, open houses, activities, and volunteer.  When they see you taking an interest, they understand that you think school is important.  You are the most influential person in your child's life.
  • Make sure your child has safe transportation to and from school.
