Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten
  

Children start kindergarten at many different levels of growth and development.
In August of each year, prospective kindergarten students will be asked to demonstrate specific skills to determine their readiness for kindergarten.
These include but are not limited to the following:
   

  • stating their first and last name (legal)
  • stating their age
  • stating their birthday
  • writing their name
  • singing the ABC's
  • counting
  • recognizing different shapes
  • recognizing colors
  • identifying body parts
  • cutting with scissors
  • copying
  • saying letters and knowing their sound
  • recognizing rhyming
  • articulating
  • positioning words
  • demonstrating fine and large motor activities (include but not limited it: hopping, skipping, jumping, catching, throwing)
