The Tigers traveled to Emmett High School for the 26th Annual Husky Relays.  Besides the Tigers and Huskies, SIC conference members Caldwell, Skyview, and Kuna along with Melba, Meadows Valley and Jerome were competing for gold medals.  The Tigers brought home three gold medals on the girls side.  Seniors Erin Hicks and Jennifer Donatelli won gold in the long jump, triple jump and discus.  Erin was a double winner with jumps of 15 feet 4.75 inches and 33 feet 7.25 inches.  Jennifer won with a throw of 140 feet even.  Donatelli lost in the shot put for the first time this season missing out on gold by a quarter of an inch with a put of 38 feet 6.75 inches.  Freshman Lauren Kisner won silver in the 300m hurdles with a person best time 51.8 seconds.  She also made the finals of the 100m.  Sophomore pole vaulter Tiffany Robins took bronze going over the bar at 7 feet.

Will Fields continued to improve in the sprints.  The junior placed third in the 100m at 11.4 seconds and was in the final of the 200 meters.  Fields also anchored the 4x100m relay along with seniors Gabe Salinas and Brandon Maughan and junior Jusitin Wiley, to a bronze medal with a time of 45.5 seconds.  In the pole vault, senior Aaron Howard brought home silver with a vault of 12 feet.  Sophomore Grant Smith placed fourth at 11 feet.  The 4x200m relay team consisting of juniors Tony Brown and Justin Wiley, along with Grant Smith and Brandon Maughan placed took bronze with a time of 1 minute 36.1 seconds.

Coach Urquidi commented, “ All the coaches were pleased with the performances.  We were not at full strength at Emmett.  We had athletes in San Francisco with choir and Washington DC with Close up.  On the girls side we could only field one relay.”   He also said, “Our boys 4x100 and 4x200 relay were right in the thick of things.  Kuna and Skyview have good sprint cores.  We feel that getting our missing athletes back on the track we will put us near the top.”

Next week the Tigers travel to the Southern Idaho Conference Championships at Meridian High School Thursday and Friday.  For the athletes not competing at SIC, they will be home Tuesday for a JV meet with Bishop Kelly, Emmett and Kuna.  “I feel that we are putting together a team that will be able to compete with the 5A conference members and be among the top 4A teams.” Coach Urquidi stated. “Looking at the top teams, they have good depth, but our top athletes are at the top or near the top of the conference.”
