BK & Caldwell Triangular     Wednesday, March 20    Complete results

The Tigers traveled to Bishop Kelly High School Wednesday for a triangular meet with Knights and the Caldwell Cougars.  It was a beautiful afternoon for the first track and field competition on Bishop Kelly’s new track.  In the girls competition, Bishop Kelly won with 84 points, followed by Mountain Home with 59 and Caldwell rounded out the field with 35 points.  The Knights also won the boys team competition with 77 points, with Caldwell and Mountain Home scoring 58 and 44 points respectfully.  “We moved some relays around this week and are getting a better idea of where best to place some kids” coach Urquidi said.  He added, “ The coaches are real happy where are field events are this early in the season.  A lot of athletes are picking up where they left off last season.  Our sprinters, hurdlers and distance runners will continue to improve.”

Individually, Will Fields had a great meet.  The junior won the 200m convincingly with a time of 24.0 seconds, placed third in the 100 meters with a time of 11.7 seconds, and anchored the winning 4x100m relay team consisting of senior Gabe Salinas, and juniors, Justin Wiley and Ian Falo, with a time of 45.8 seconds.  Ian Falo continued to show he is one of the top pole vaulters in the conference, by winning with a height of 12 feet 6 inches, tying his personal record in only his second meet of the season.  Sophomore Grant Smith went over the bar at 11 feet to place third.  The distance races led by sophomore Alvaro Salas, theTigers swept the 3200 meters taking all four places.  Salsas won with a time of 11 minutes 32.9 seconds, followed by senior Robert Taylor at 12:21.4, sophomore Nate Bundy with a time of 12:49.3 and senior Mark Lupton coming in at 12:56.9.  In the hurdles, freshman Cory Bernaiche placed third in the 110 meter highs at 19.2 seconds.   Senior Tony Brown and Cory Bernaiche placed third and fourth in the 300m intermediate hurdles.  The medley relay team (Brandon Maughn, Anthony Pomerlee, Michael Thornsberry and Nathan Slade) won with a time of 4 minutes 6.3 seconds.        

 

Jennifer Donatelli is starting her senior season where she left off last season after winning the discus and being runner-up in the shot.  She won both events Wednesday with great marks of 39 feet 5 inches in the shot and 140 feet 8.75 inches in the discus. Jenn is closing in on Delilah Cavin’s school records that have stood since 1978.  Senior teammate, Denice Wade also continues to improve placing third in both throwing events with distance of 85 feet 10 inches and 27 feet 6 inches. The senior jumping duo of Erin Hicks and Kristen Lothrop swept the long and triple jumps going 15 feet and 14 feet 10.5 inches in the long and 32 feet 6.25 inches and 31 feet 4 inches in the triple. In the pole vault, sophomores Bethany Gliddon and Tiffany Robins along with senior Gayle Knutzen swept the event for the second straight week.  The only difference was the order of finish.  Gliddon won at 7 feet, followed by Knutzen and Robins both at 6 feet 6 inches.  In the 400 meters, Gayle Knutzen placed first (1:08.5) and senior Tonya Rosenberger placing second (1:21.0).  Freshman Lauren Kisner came in third with a time of 53.3 seconds in the 300m hurdles.  The girls 4x100m team (Kinser, Lothorp, Knuzen and Hicks) placed second at 55.3 seconds and the medley relay team (Shelly Martin, Nicole Tippets, Gliddon and Jenna Newton) also placed second with a time of 2 minutes 21 seconds.     

 

The Tigers take a week off for spring break, but will return to action Friday April 5th at home hosting Jerome and Middleton in a triangular.
