March 16, 2001 Mountain Home, Nampa & Caldwell Triangular Complete Team Results
The Tigers won both the boys and girls competitions Friday at Caldwell High School in a triangular with Nampa and Caldwell. The boys won with 72 points followed by Caldwell with 65 points and Nampa with 44. The girls won with 71 points followed by Nampa with 63 points and Caldwell with 46. Both teams placed in all events but two.
A strong group of sophomore girls won four of the six field events. Jennifier Donatelli continued to dominate the throws. Her throw of 132 feet 4 inches in the discus, won by almost 21 feet. She also had a put of 35 feet. Denice Wade also continues to improve with marks of 73' 7" and 29' 6" good enough for third in both. In the long jump, Kristen Lothrop, Erin Hicks and Launa Ketterling went first, second and third. All were personal best marks of 15 feet 10 inches, 15 feet 1inch and 13 feet 10 inches respectivley. In the triple jump, Erin and Kristen switched places with Hicks winning at 32 feet 11.5 inches and Lothrop with a jump of 31feet 2 inches. Launa Ketterling won the 100m high hurdles with a time of 18.5 seconds and also placed second in the 300m intermediate hurdles with a personal best time of 54.2 seconds. Other sophomores to place were Gayle Knutzen second in the pole vault (7' 0"); Tristen Knutzen second in the 200m (32.4;) and Bobbie Putnam third the 100m high hurdles (19.5) and the 300m intermediate hurdles (57.8). Senior Karen Mercado placed second in the 3200m (13:45) and in the 1600m (6:15.6). Freshman pole vaulter Tiffany Robins cleared 7 feet to tie for second. The girls placed second in 4x100m (1:01.0), 4x200m (1:59.7) and the medley (2:11.0) relays. The 4x100m consisted of senior Andrea Jackson, Putnam, Tristen Knutzen, and sophmore Crystal Shockey. The 4x200m had Ketterling, Hicks, Lothrop and freshman Kristen McDaniel. McDaniel, Hicks, Lothrop and junior Tonya Rosenberger ran the medley relay.
Senior Chris Hansen, won for the second consecutive week in the long jump with a jump of 18'4.75". Aaron Howard, a junior, also won for the second consecutive week in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet. Sophomores, Simual Johnson won the high jump, clearing the bar at 5' 8", while Justin Wiley won the 1600m with a personal best 4:53.5. Justin also placed second in the 100m with a time of 11.7, also a personal best. In the high jump, senior David Tucker and sophomore Marcel Wright, place second and third, with jumps of 5' 4" and 5' 0" to complete the sweep. In the throwing events, senior Will Lego placed second in the discus with a personal best throw of 124 feet 9.5 inches, while sophomore Will Fields, also placed second in the shot put with a personal record put of 40 feet 8 inches. Freshman Alvaro Salas, placed second in the 3200m with a time of 11:21.5. In team events, the Tigers almost swept the relays winning the 4x100 (46.4), 4x400m (4:02.7) and medley (4:33.5). The 4x100m had senior Tyler Yagues, Wiley, Hansen and senior Brent Tortolano. The 4x400m, consisted of sophomores Ian Falo, Tony Brown, Ben Knudson, and Aaron Howard. The medley had Falo, Fields, sophomore Nathan Slade and Senior Dan Hiler.
"I was very pleased with the effort today." stated coach Urquidi, "We were able to have depth in our event and placed in almost every event. This is the first year we were able to place girls in every event. In the boys we had enough athletes to run varsity and junior varsity relays. Our coaches are real proud of our athletes."
Because of parent/teacher conferences Thursday, the Tigers get back into action early this week hosting Kuna Wednesday at Tiger Field. They will take a week off for spring break, then start up again at home Wednesday, April 4 hosting Emmett and Vallivue, then again on Friday hosting the Tiger Classic.
