Developing The MHHS Writing Center

Why a Writing Center?

"I could not be the primary editor for my many student writers if I wanted them to produce a good deal of revised writing during the course of the school year."  Richard Kent DeVore's Class

Writing centers, writing labs, writing workshops, or writer's centers are places where writers talk with fellow writers about their work in an effort to discover a thesis, overcome procrastination, develop ideas, create an outline, evaluate a draft, or revise a draft.  Writing center staff members support, tutor and confer with writers in an effort to encourage and motivate.  In the most effective writing center, student writers feel a ease as they create and revise lab reports, applications, essays. projects, digital stories, poems, cover letters iMovies, resumes, short stories, songs, research papers, personal letters, etc.
