Post Office Club 2011-2012

Tiger Town, Idaho  83647

We all know how fun it is to receive a hand-written letter.  In the age of technology, real-life experiences in which students can apply skills such as writing letters, addressing stationary, and using a directory is minimal.  This club provides opportunities for all students to apply the skills necessary for authentic communication in writing and routing mail.

The Post Office Club also helps students develop a sense of job responsibility.  It is a program which can unify our entire student body through a student-centered, school-wide communication program.

The program was created by the U.S. Postal Service as a part of a “Stamp Out Illiteracy” initiative.  Although the program no longer exists, Mrs. Gordon and Mrs. Jackson sponsor this program as the students develop a sense of job responsibility by operating and maintaining the mechanics of a postal system within our school.

The club has all the components of a real post office.  Our hallways are turned into streets with classroom numbers corresponding for the address and listed in the Tiger Town directory.  Mail is picked up, sorted and delivered during the lunch break.

Students will be able to sign up to work at the post office during the first semester, and may be required to stay after school until about 3:45 on announced days.

The Post Office Club sponsors the Valentine Candy Gram Sale a week before Valentine’s Day.  We sell the grams for .25 with a candy attached and deliver to the 7th hour teachers for distribution.
