The Mountain Home Police Cadet Program has 4 openings. Applications are available by the office. They must be turned in by September 30th.
What is the Police Cadet Program? The Police Cadet program is designed to introduce young men and women interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. This will be accomplished through mentorship, classroom instruction and hands-on training. Upon completion of the program, Cadets who desire to continue in the field of law enforcement are encouraged to apply with the Mountain Home Police Department as reserve or full time police officers. What are the Cadet Program’s Objectives? * Instill an understanding and appreciation of the criminal justice system, and the professional ethics applied to law enforcement. * Develop an appreciation and understanding of Idaho Laws. * Our goal is for the cadets to become future community policing officers for the Mountain Home Police Department. What does a police cadet do? Once accepted into the cadet program, you will be working many details andassignments in uniform, and are involved in the following areas of community events and services: * Attend meetings *School activities *Parades *Ride-along with police officers *Community events *Fundraising events Training Opportunities Police Cadets gain valuable experience and training in preparation for a career in law enforcement. Although police cadets have no police powers, they receive the following training: *Community Policing Philosophy *Ethics and decision making *Crime Scene control *Field Sobriety Testing *Domestic Violence Investigations* Traffic Stops *Crash Investigations *Handcuffing Techniques* CPR/First Aid *Building Searches *Interview and Interrogation Requirements: Those interested in the program must meet the following criteria: * Age 13 –20 * Maintain a “C” grade point average with no failures in high school. Your school must recommend you for this program.. * Have no arrests or convictions which would prohibit employment as a police officer. * Pass a back ground investigation to include interviewing references, contact with police, driving records, and any other information useful in determining your good character. |
