Getting started exercising is often the hardest thing to do. Coming up with a plan to be consistent in a routine is important. Consistent means that you are doing it all the time and sticking with it. You aren't spending a lot of time messing around or choosing to do other things instead. It means that you pick a time and you do your exercise routine at that time. Having a consistent time for exercise does not mean that you have to do the same thing every day. A lot of people get burned out and quit exercising because they get bored doing the same thing over and over.
When you set up an exercise time you need to think about other things going on in your life. What sorts of things will interrupt your exercise? Think about this! Take a few moments and jot down the things you have to do each day and the time of day you have to do them. Then go back and look for empty time slots that might work for you as an exercise time. This is the key factor to whether you develop a successful program or not. If you don't make time for it, when will you do it? The answer is you won't!
A successful exercise program does not need to be every day. You can set up a program on Mondays-Fridays. You can set up a program that goes every other day. You don't want to skip more than a day or two if you can prevent it. If your schedule is complicated you can break up the activities throughout the day. There are some times you want to avoid. You don't want to plan exercise right after a meal. This can upset your stomach and you won't be able to exercise at your peak. It also is not good for your digestive system. You don't want to schedule exercise right before you want to rest. Exercise gets the fluids pumping and getting them slowed down to rest is tough to do. Also, to benefit from exercise you don't need to have hours and hours scheduled. Start with a half hour a day and work your way up. If you have any questions about how much or how hard you should exercise consult with your doctor.
