Applications will be taken and processed on a first
come first serve basis. The first 30/60/90 students to get their paperwork in and
permit purchased will be in the class each session. There is only room for
15 students in the Premium class. Early registration is suggested. Use the
chart below to determine which session you would like to be in and get your
application in before the last day the application is due for that
session. Once you receive a letter of acceptance, make sure you get your
driving permit in the designated time, to make sure you get the session you

Please fill out the attached

(PDF
format) and return it to the high school office by the designated time set
for the session you want. No applications will be taken after the due
date for each session.
The minimum requirements and regulations governing the
driver education program are:
1. To be eligible for the after school course, a
student must be at least 14½ years of age, when they go to get their
driving permit. Students must be at least 15 years old, have been involved
in 2 after school activities the previous year, and enrolled at Mountain
Home High School with sophomore status of 10 credits to be eligible for the
premium class.
2. If completion is successful, notation will be made in the student’s
school records. However, no high school credit is given for this course.
3. The law requires that each student enrolling into driver’s education
obtain a driver’s training permit. This permit must be purchased at
the sheriff’s office before the date designated as the last day to but a
permit for that session. Signature of one parent witnessed by the
Sheriff or deputy is required for the issuance of this permit. One
natural parent or legal guardian must accompany the student when they apply
for the permit. Proof of age is required, the applicant must bring a
State certified birth certificate, Social Security card, a pictured ID card
and a letter of verification from the school district that they are in for
that school year that they apply for the permit. I will provide a
letter of verification for the students enrolled in Mountain Home School
District. The fee for this permit is $18.50 and must be paid in
cash. The office hours for obtaining permits are from 8:30 to 3:30 Monday
through Friday. Because of the limited number of students to be
enrolled, early registration is encouraged. Once you receive your letter of
acceptance, check the above schedule to see when you need to get your
permit. Don’t get left out because you failed to get your permit in
time. If you fail to get your permit during this time you will not be
permitted to take the class. Remember only a certain number of students
will be allowed in each session. When the number of students allowed, get
their permits, the class will be closed. The student is also required to
pay a Driver Education fee of $145.00 to the Mountain Home High School.
This fee is $160.00 for the premium class. This fee must be paid at the
High School office before the class starts. Keep the pink receipt and bring
it to class with you the first day.
4. The students will take an eye examination while at the Sheriff’s
office, so if you wear glasses, bring them with you. If you suspect a
vision problem, please see a doctor prior to application. The permit cannot
be issued until the problem is corrected.
5. Students must use their full legal name and give a correct address. If
a Post Office Box is used, the street address must also be given. If a
Rural Route number is used, a street description such as Canyon Creek Road,
etc. must be given.
6. The Driver Training Permit is a learner’s permit and allows driving
only with a certified Driver Education Instructor. This is the State
Law. This permit will then be given to one of your parents for supervised
instruction period after the coursed has been completed.
7. The minimum requirements for completion of the course will include 30
hours of classroom instruction, not less than 6 hours of behind the wheel
instruction, and 6 hours of in the car observation learning.
8. All driver education vehicles will be equipped with dual brake controls.
9. The Mountain Home School District will carry adequate insurance as
provided by laws.
10. The Driver Education program will be conducted at the Mountain Home
High School in Rooms 34 and 31.
11. Due to a limited funding, it will be impossible to have makeup sessions
in situations other than a serious illness or dire emergency. Please plan
your time to eliminate possible conflicts that may result in your
unsuccessful completion of the course.
12. If you cannot complete the program in the days outlined, please do
not submit an application, as regular attendance at all scheduled sessions
is mandatory.
