Mission:
The mission of
Plaza Comunitaria is to provide a variety of ongoing educational and cultural opportunities for
native Spanish-speakers living in the United States.
Organizations
form Mexico and the U.S.
are
working in partnership to bring this resource center into existence and consistently
strive to provide learning environments at locations that are easily
accessible to many diverse groups in local communities.
Locally
there are a large number of students within the Mountain Home School District that
come from migrant family backgrounds. These families are usually first and
second generation Mexican, primarily, and many of the parents have not yet
learned English. Because their primary
concern is to make a living and provide for their children they have not
acquired the fundamental educational skills that would allow them to be culturally
assimilated with ease. Thus, they have a tendency to isolate themselves from the rest of the community
without knowledge of possible ways to complete basic education.
The Plazas Comunitarias are there precisely to support the education of Latin
emigrants living in the United States. |

Plaza Comunitaria in Idaho
Welcome to our Mountain Home Plaza Comunitaria the first Plaza in Idaho inaugurated on Fri. February 18, 2005 in Richard McKenna Charter High School. We used a videoconference and connected with Salvador Jiménez Muñoz, Mexican Cónsul in Salt Lake City, Ut. Mexican Consulate and Lic. Atala Pérez Rodríguez, Director of the Mexican Institute of the Exterior.
We are located at West Elementary School where the principal Nancy BrLetic, has generously facilitated the use of the Computer Room # 22. Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. We have volunteers available to help students assimilate their studies independently. Part of this time is used for ESL activities in a group.
There are more than 270 Plazas Comunitarias in the United States. In this website you will find information about the Educational System that INEA uses and everything related with this operation.

Lastly, you will have access to the Automated Progress and Acreditation for Communities in the Exterior (SASAE), to a series of resources to support learning, and the Directory of Officials of Mexican Consulates in the USA.
Plazas Comunitarias are open places for community education where people, in accordance to their interests, can come to learn how to read, to write, to finish elementary or middle school, complete High School, GED, ESL or take some online training for the working force. All this, taking advantage of the technologies for information and telecommunication in a computer room with access to the Internet.
This is done mainly trough independent study, supported by personnel dedicated to help students how to use the resources such as CONEVyT’s education portal, books and videos. These programs and services from INEA are free.
We would like to use this opportunity to thank all the collaborators, Mountain Home School District, West Elementary School, Public Library, ECHO, Parks and Recreation, Head Start, and Migrant Head Start with their unconditional help that makes this project functional.
