#4a Worksheet -  KEYword Searching
When you search by keyword, you try to enter worlds that are not so broad that you get thousands of hits, but not so narrow that you get only one or two.
If you are not getting the results you expect, you might want to try synonyms for the keyword you have entered.  Use a thesaurus to help you identify a synonym.
If you have hundreds of results, think of a narrower term.  If you are getting only a few results, think f a broader term.  Your teacher or librarian can help you with this.

Where do you do keyword searches?
  • An online book catalog (card catalog)
  • Electronic databases
  • Web sites

What is the difference between a keyword
and a subject?

A keyword can appear anywhere in the citation, article, or an part of the record that comes up as your result.

A subject is a category or topic assigned to a book or article when it is placed in a database.  The subject word you enter may or may not appear in the citation, article, or any part of the record.
